I don’t watch much TV these days: video podcasts and DVDs fill the ‘gap’ very nicely. Besides, I just don’t have time. But if I want to know what’s on, new website Throng is offering an easy way to find out:

…throng.co.nz has today launched a world-first web 2.0 television listings format.

In development for more than two years, the new format replaces the traditional TV guide grid and makes it easier to find what is on at a glance.

Shows are displayed based on what is on now, what starts in the next hour and what is on in prime time tonight. Shows are weighted according to popularity on throng.co.nz.

What that means in practice is that when you visit the Throng home page you see a quick list, across the page, of what’s on now. Below that is what’s coming soon, and below that what’s on tonight. Some show names are bigger and bolder than others. Those are the popular shows.

Then there’s news, gossip, recaps, spoilers and the like. Looks good to me.
