A coat of pollen

by Miraz on 15 August 2009 · 0 comments

Our house, windows, deck and car have been coated with yellow. Even the footpaths are yellow. There’s a yellow haze on everything.

Pine flowers. The other day we were walking up the path from our house to the road when my partner pointed down the valley. I looked to see actual clouds of pollen swirling off a pine tree.

It’s August and trees and other plants are starting their Spring thing. Buds are popping up, blossoms are starting to coat the trees, new growth is appearing.

For the last few days our house, windows, deck and car have been coated with yellow. Even the footpaths are yellow. There’s a yellow haze on everything.

This morning we had a little rain. Just a little. First large blobs appeared on the windows, making holes in the yellow film, then a steady spattering. Then it stopped.

It was just enough to lift the pollen on the deck, and where a puddle had formed to swirl it into beautiful patterns.
